Revalidation and Upgradation Courses for all Marine Engineers(RUCE)

The Revalidation and Upgradation Courses for Marine Engineers are designed to enhance, renew and maintain the professional competence of marine engineering officers in accordance with the requirements of the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS), STCW Convention, Merchant Shipping Regulations and IMO standards.

These courses enable engineering officers to update their knowledge, refresh mandatory safety competencies and meet the eligibility requirements for higher responsibilities and Certificate of Competency (COC) progression.

The programme covers revalidation of mandatory safety training, operational and management level upgradation, and development of technical competence required for modern shipboard operations.

Competency Outcome:

  1. Maintain and renew mandatory competencies in accordance with DGS requirements, STCW Convention and IMO regulations.
  2. Demonstrate updated knowledge and practical skills related to marine engineering operations and shipboard maintenance activities.
  3. Apply safe engineering practices for operation, maintenance and monitoring of main propulsion machinery and auxiliary systems onboard ships.
  4. Perform engineering duties effectively at operational and management levels as per rank responsibilities.
  5. Demonstrate competence in engine room resource management, leadership and teamwork during shipboard operations.
  6. Operate and maintain engineering systems using safe procedures and established operational practices.
  7. Implement onboard fire prevention, emergency response and survival procedures during emergency situations.
  8. Apply pollution prevention measures and environmental protection requirements in accordance with MARPOL and related regulations.
  9. Maintain compliance with statutory requirements related to safety, security and engineering operations onboard ships.
  10. Demonstrate competence in handling high voltage systems, engine room simulator exercises and advanced engineering operations, where applicable.
  11. Upgrade professional knowledge and fulfill eligibility requirements for higher engineering responsibilities and Certificate of Competency (COC) progression.
  12. Ensure continued compliance with revalidation requirements and competency standards for serving onboard Indian and Foreign Going vessels.
